Kuala LumperMalaysia will be opening its borders to international travellers starting April 1.

This follows a growing list of countries that are relaxing travel restrictions. Saudi Arabia eased restrictions earlier in the week, following Jamaica, Maldives and Ireland’s lead.

This decision is made as the country moves into an endemic phase during the pandemic. It will boost the tourism and aviation sectors.

Since 2020, the country has been largely closed to foreign visitors.

The new rules allow fully vaccinated passengers to leave Malaysia without having to be quarantined upon arrival. However, they must take a PCR test at least two days prior to departure and a rapid antibody test within 24 hours.

A pre-departure form must be completed by foreign travellers before they can enter the country. They will not need a MyTravelPass permit.

Daniel Bainbridge is the UK and Europe regional director for Malaysia Airlines. He commented, “We are delighted to announce that we now have an official date of full reopening Malaysia’s borders across all its locations. This has been a long-awaited event.

“As the only airline that flies non-stop between London and Kuala Lumpur we are excited to welcome passengers aboard and help them explore the beautiful flora, fauna, delicious cuisines, and vibrant cities of Malaysia.

“We have been working hard for this milestone and have increased our flight capacity to offer better connections between Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

National carrier said it has increased its flight capacity to offer better connections between Malaysia and south-east Asia.

Momentum is building towards a more complete reopening this month of the tourism industry.
